Ahhh, the question that has made or broken many a band. What music should we play? Well, I’m going to tell you right now that Dance music has made me more money than any other kind. I’m a rock guitar player and I sing lead quite often as well. I love Rock-N-Roll. That’s my music. Especially the hard stuff like AC\DC, Led Zepplin, Dream Theater and The Who. But it’s hard to get people on the dance floor playing that type of music. I still play Won’t Get Fooled again by The Who, but mainly at the beginning of the night or during encores.
The rest of the night is all about getting the crowd up out of their seats. I’m going to recommend a compilation CD to you because every track on this CD is going to get people dancing. The CD is called Celebration: All-Time Greatest Dance Songs. Now do I think these are the ALL-TIME greatest dance songs? Some of them, yes. I mean people LOVE Brick House and all of the songs will get people dancing. If you see a song on here you don’t particularly love you can always change it up a bit and make it your own. Just remember to keep the tempo close to the original and at least make it recognizable. I know you’ll be happy when you look out on the dance floor and see a big crowd out there dancing and having a great time. When the people at your show are having a great time, it doesn’t matter if you love the song or not, they do and you can feed off the audiences energy.
Check out this disc, it’s a great starting point.
