My Stage Amp - Fender Cyber-Twin SE Amplifier

   Today I have another of my custom programmed Fender Cyber-Twin SE preset sound patches for you to listen to and download. I use my Cyber-Twin SE in all kinds of live band settings because the amplifier is so incredibly versatile. I have programmed several ‘Special Effect’ type sound patches that I use when I need a specific sound to fill a spot in certain songs.

   This sound, LMC Talk-Wah, was created specifically to mimic the sound of the Talkbox being used on the Nazarethsong “Hair Of The Dog” which my band plays. If you aren’t familiar with that song that’s okay, I play the lick in the sound clip below. The sound is similar to what Peter Frampton does on “Show Me The Way”.     

   The Cyber-Twin SE has a really cool effect called Touch Wah + Fuzz which is sensitive to your playing dynamics. In other words, when you pick your guitar softly the sound reacts differently from when you pick really hard. One important thing to remember to make this sound as reactive to your playing as possible is to make sure your input trim is just barely flashing red when you pick your guitar really hard at full volume. If you don’t set your input trim properly then the sound won’t respond to your playing very well.

   Just in case you don’t like the responsiveness of the touch feature, I assigned the Expression Pedal to control Wah Sensitivity. That way you can tweak it on the fly if you want to. As usual, I assigned the Continuous Controller to control the Gain of the amplifier.

   In the soundclip I am playing my 2004 Fender 50th Anniversary Stratocaster which has an Alder body and Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Pickups on it. The first part of the clip I’m playing the Nazareth – “Hair Of The Dog” Talkbox riff. The Stratocaster is set to the bridge pickup only in this sound clip.

   I’ve posted the MIDI System Exclusive data as well as a link to the Text file so you can load this preset patch into your Cyber-Twin SE. Fender Cyber-Twin SE Amplifier

   Just in time for the weekend, here’s another free Fender Cyber-Twin SE preset patch for you to check out and download. I call this preset “LMC Mid Grind ’66″ and it’s very loosely based on a Fender Super Reverb ’66 amplifier. I’ve made quite a few tweaks to this preset and I use it all the time in my live band. In fact, I like this preset so much that I put it in preset number P01 so that it’s the first sound that comes up when I turn on my Cyber-Twin SE.

   What I really love about the “LMC Mid Grind ’66″ preset is how it lets the guitars true tone shine through. The sound of the guitar that you’re using will really determine how this preset patch will sound. It’s one of those special presets that will have guitarists naming the type of guitar you’re playing through the amplifier. A Stratocaster will sound like a Strat while a Les Paul will undeniably be a Les Paul. There are some presets that sound pretty much the same no matter what guitar you play through them but not “LMC Mid Grind ’66″.      

   The effects I’m using on this preset patch include a tiny touch of Reverb along with the “Delay + Chorus” effect. All of the effects are used to add very subtle color and depth to the sound. I didn’t want “LMC Mid Grind ’66″ to be too heavily effected so it’s really the sound of the amplifier and not the effects unit.

   I assigned Chorus Depth to the Expression Pedal so you can add some heavier effects if the song calls for it. As usual, I assigned Gain to the Continuous Controller and I do crank the gain up to 10 a lot of the time using “LMC Mid Grind ’66″.

   In the sound clip I am playing my 2006 Fender American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster which is equipped with the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Pickups. I switch between the 3 pickups as the sound clip progresses. I start out on the bridge pickup, move the middle pickup and finally play on the neck pickup. For the blues section at the end of the soundclip I crank the gain up to 10 so you can hear how it sounds all the way up.

   I’ve posted both the MIDI System Exclusive data as well as a text file for you to load this preset patch into your Fender Cyber-Twin SE. Fender Cyber-Twin SE Amplifier

   Today I’m posting another of my custom programmed preset patches for all you guitarists using the excellent Fender Cyber-Twin SE amplifier in your live band. The Fender Cyber-Twin SE is my current stage amp. I’m very particular about my live sound so I spend some good time programming my Cyber-Twin SE until it sounds just like what I’m hearing in my head. Today’s patch is called “LMC Twang” and as the name suggests, it’s a twangy clear tone sound preset.

   There’s not a lot to say about this preset patch. It’s a bright, clear and twangy amp sound which uses a Blackface tone stack. I use this sound when my band plays Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash. I also used this sound on Shufflin’ Noah’s album “Fudgie The Dog”. I used it on track 1,  “Fudgie The Dog (intro)”.   

   I like all my tones to have just the slightest bit of tube grit to them. LMC Twang can get gritty if you hit it really hard with your guitar signal. It runs very clean most of the time though. If you do want to add some extra grit and a bit of tube power to the sound, I’ve assigned the Gain control to the Continuous Controller pedal. If you want the sound even cleaner, just crank the gain down some.

   LMC Twang has some light Delay and Chorus on it and I’ve assigned the FX Wet Out Level to the Expression Pedal if you want a drier sound. The Delay gives it a little bit of a slapback effect like what you hear on the old Sun recordings by Johnny Cash.

   The sound clip of ”LMC Twang” was recorded using my 2004, 50th Anniversary American Deluxe Stratocaster which is equipped with the factory Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups. Fender Cyber-Twin SE Amplifier

   Today on Live Musician Central I’m posting another of my custom programmed preset sound patches for the Fender Cyber-Twin SE amplifier. This patch is called “LMC Matt’s Noise” and is one of my ‘special effect’ sound patches. This preset is based on a British Tone Stack and the Backwards Delay effect. I personally feel that the Backwards Delay effect has to be one of the least musical effects in the Cyber-Twin SE effect bank. But, it still has it’s place in the sonic soundscape.       

   The reason I programmed “LMC Matt’s Noise” is mainly for adding color to certain songs. One song I use this sound on in my cover band is the Nine Inch Nails song “Closer”. For the way my band does that song, I use “LMC Matt’s Noise”  to create extra tension in the music. I also use “LMC Matt’s Noise” on the “Fudgie The Dog” album in the song “Prison” to create a darker, mysterious feel. I play solo’s in the song “Prison” with this sound and when using “LMC Matt’s Noise” for solo’s you have to play slow and let the notes really build.    To give “LMC Matt’s Noise” more real time versatility, I have assigned the Delay Out Level to the Continuous Controller pedal so you can clean the sound up a bit for more clarity on your guitar. I also assigned the Delay Fwd Feedback parameter to the Expression Pedal so you can crank up the delay repeats and build a huge wall of noise. I did this at the end of the sound clip featured on this page. You need to be careful doing that because you can easily overload your amplifier with this sound and possibly cause damage to it.

   It’s up to you to decide where and when you would use the “LMC Matt’s Noise” preset patch. I keep using it in here and there both live and in the studion. The sound has surprised me with it’s versatility at times. When I hear the sound patch back on recordings I haven’t been disappointed with it. “LMC Matt’s Noise” can bring a surprising amount of texture to a song.

Fender Cyber-Twin SE Amplifier

   Today on Live Musician Central I’m posting another one of my custom programmed sound preset patches for the Fender Cyber-Twin SE guitar amplifier. This one is called “LMC Stack Hot” and it is a more powerful version of my “LMC Stack Chorus” preset that I posted last week. I actually use “LMC Stack Chorus” and “LMC Stack Hot” together on a lot of songs. The basic sound is that of a classic Marshall amplifier which I wanted to thicken up with stereo chorus and create the illusion of having a 2nd guitar. On “LMC Stack Hot” I used the same basic tone as “LMC Stack Chorus” but I switched to Sine Chorus insted of Triangle Chorus for a smoother, more focused chorus sound. I also switched to HMB Tube 2 drive circuitry, added compressor and cranked the gain up a bit to increase the sustain. I use “LMC Stack Hot” as a boost for solo’s or to add more sustain in songs that I’m using “LMC Stack Chorus” as the main sound. I switch between both sounds in the same song a lot of the time but they do get used on their own in different songs as well.     

   On ”LMC Stack Hot” I assigned the Chorus Out Level to the Expression Pedal since some songs call for less stereo separation and less chorusing. It’s nice to be able to adjust it on the fly with the pedal. The gain is pretty cranked so I assigned it to the Continuous Controller so you can tweak the gain if you need to for dynamics. As I said before, this sound is more focused in the stereo spectrum than “LMC Stack Chorus” which you can hear in the sound clip. I play some more of AC/DC’s  “You Shook Me All Night Long” in this soundclip including a little bit of the solo. You can hear how the compression I’ve added to “LMC Stack Hot” smooths out the phrasing.

   I get a lot of traffic on Live Musician Central for both the Fender Cyber-Twin SE Amplifier and the Fender Stratocaster. I talk about both those pieces of Fender equipment a lot because that’s what I use myself. The Cyber-Twin SE and my Fender American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster comprise the core of my current live guitar rig. I also have a home studio where I record my own original music as well as my bands Shufflin’ Noah and In Stereo’s original music. Needless to say, my Cyber-Twin SE and Stratocasters are on a lot of my recordings. I also get a lot of traffic on my Fender Cyber-Twin SE custom patch-preset download page from Cyber-Twin SE users looking for quality sound patches for their amplifiers. I have short sound clips of my custom Cyber-Twin SE sound patches on the download page but I haven’t posted up a lot of complete songs that highlight the way these preset patches sound within the confines of a band. Today I’m going to point you to an album I recorded with my band Shufflin’ Noah that features the Fender Cyber-Twin SE amplifer and my ’98 Fender Jeff Beck Signature Stratocaster using my custom programmed preset patches exclusively for every guitar sound on the album.

   The album by Shufflin’ Noah is called “Fudgie The Dog” and it’s a concept album detailing the life and misadventures of a German Shorthair dog named Fudgie. The entire album came out of a 2-hour jam session where we simply recorded everything we played. The only discussion or planning that went into creating the album were short 5 to 10 minute discussions about what Fudgie would do next. Then we’d create the next song complete with music, melody and lyrics right there on the spot. Sometimes the playing is loose and sometimes the songs are just okay, but there are times when we catch that special musical magic that comes from four musicians being completely in synch with one another.    Once you have a copy of the album you can hear for yourself how great the Fender Cyber-Twin SE and Jeff Beck Stratocaster sound on the recording without any overdubs or added studio effects. Fender Cyber-Twin SE and Jeff Beck Stratocaster Featured On Shufflin’ Noah Album

    Today on Live Musician Central I’m posting one of my most popular custom programmed preset patches for the Fender Cyber-Twin SE amplifier. This is the first of two patches that I use in tandem to create a lot of my classic Marshall amplifier tones. The basis for this patch is the “Vintage Stack” amplifier model that comes with the Cyber-Twin SE. Where it differs from that one is my patche’s ability to get thick and wide in the stereo spectrum with chorus and also with more gain. One of the biggest challenges I face being the only guitar player in the band is creating the illusion of having more than one guitarist onstage. A lot of the time I’m combining two guitar parts to be played on a single guitar and it’s up to my Cyber-Twin SE to create the thickness of two guitars. That’s how this preset patch was born.

   I used the Triangle Chorus on “LMC Stack Chorus” to create a wide, stereo guitar effect. The key is slowing the chorus rate way down so that the sound just sounds wide instead of heavily chorused. Heavy chorusing doesn’t work well with distortion but slow, light chorusing works wonders. In the sound clip, you can hear where I turn the chorus on halfway through the clip and there’s the illusion of a 2nd guitar layer. It sounds really amazing in 5.1 sound as well.  There is no compressor on this patch and all distortion is controlled with the volume knob of the guitar in the sound clip. I did assign the gain knob to the continuous controller pedal so you can use that to dial the gain up to the maximum. I also assigned the Expression Pedal to the Chorus Out level since sometimes the chorus is too thick and it’s nice to be able to dial it back to suit the song.

   Here’s another of my custom programmed Fender Cyber-Twin SE Preset Patches for all you Cyber-Twin SE users to download. With the recent huge Fender price increase, isn’t it about time you got something for free? Well, Live Musician Central is happy to provide something to help all you working musicians out there. This preset patch is one of my all time favorites and I’ve used it on a lot of my original music. The name of the patch is LMC Warm Triple and as the name suggests, it’s a combination of my LMC Warm Rain and LMC Triple Delay patches which are two of my most popular patches on Live Musician Central.

   As you know, LMC Warm Rain is a warm, chorused clean sound and LMC Triple Delay is a distorted sound withan evenly spaced, 3-hit delay setting. I love the depth that the triple delay gives me and I also like the way that Warm Rain’s EQ and chorus setting wraps the sound around in the stereo spectrum. So my goal was to create that clean warmth with the thick layering of the triple delay. The challenge was in the fact that there is no chorus with multi-tap delay effect built in to the Cyber-Twin SE. Luckily, Fender has incorporated the very convenient Wow & Flutter setting into it’s Tape Echo effect. By tweaking the Wow & Flutter setting I was able to get that rich, chorus sound that I have on LMC Warm Rain. Once I was able to nail the chorus effect, setting up the triple delay was easy.

   The LMC Warm Triple preset is easy to set on the beat of whatever song you’re playing. You can either use the Tap button to synchronize the beat or you can use the Delay Formula to calculate the millisecond setting to get your delays exactly on the beat. Just remember, if you’re using the delay formula to figure out how many milliseconds to set the delay so that the repeats happen on the beat, you’ll need to double the result on the Cyber-Twin SE. For example, on a song with a tempo of 120 Beats Per Minute you would normally set a delay time of 500 ms for the repeats to happen every quarter note. With the Triple Delay patch on the Cyber-Twin SE you would set the Delay time to 1000 ms.

   I’ve assigned the Expression Pedal to control the Wow & Flutter setting so you can take out some of the chorus effect if you want. I’ve assigned the Continuous Controller to the Echo Out Level so you can bring your guitars original signal more to the front of the sound if you wish.

   The sound clip of LMC Warm Triple was recorded using my 2004 50th Anniversary American Deluxe Stratocaster which is equipped with the factory Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups. I am using the middle pickup setting for the sound demo. I’ve posted the MIDI System Exclusive data for easy transferring to your Fender Cyber-Twin SE as well as the text file for this patch. My Stage Amp - The Fender Cyber-Twin SE

  Today for all you Fender Cyber-Twin SE playing live guitarists, I’m posting a brand new preset sound patch called LMC Pure Clean. Over on the Fender Community Forum we were discussing the Cyber-Twin SE’s capacity for creating a true Fender clean amp sound. The Cyber-Twin SE is powered by a true tube pre-amp and it’s natural tendency is for warm, overdriven tube sounds. Even though that’s the case I decided to try dialing up a nice, bright Fender clean sound without using any of the onboard effects.      

   The sound that I’ve created has not been time and road tested like all my other preset patches that I’ve posted on Live Musician Central. It sometimes takes me several gigs worth of tweaking to get a sound to the point where it’s working perfectly live onstage. A lot of my preset patches aren’t ready for a month or two. I programmed LMC Pure Clean in a week so it may go through further revisions later on as I use it more live. As it is now I don’t feel that it’s as refined as my other sound patches. I mainly wanted to try to honor a request by LesK on the Fender community forum.

   So with those disclaimers let me tell you a little about LMC Pure Clean. The sound does not have a compressor turned on and it has very low gain to keep the sound undistorted. That means you have a ton of dynamic headroom and the sound is completely in control of the players touch. If you hit your guitar too hard the sound will get out of control quickly. When you listen to the sound clip you can hear the sound jump out at you when I hit the final chord of the country twang picking section. But if you play with good physical control of the guitar then LMC Pure Clean will let you hear your guitar un-adorned by a lot of signal manipulation. It’s a really great sound for demonstrating the difference in guitars as it colors the sound of the instrument very little. If your guitar has string buzz or the pickups are adjusted wrong, you’re going to hear it using LMC Pure Clean. The sound is extremely responsive to your guitars Volume and Tone controls as well.

   Another interesting thing about the LMC Pure Clean patch is how it makes use of the Cyber-Twin SE’s ability to mix and match amp and circuit types. It has a Fender Tweed Amp tone stack tied to the drive circuitry of a Fender Blackface Tube amp. Has that been done in an amp before? I don’t know. I have also added some Fender Reverb to the sound as well and given the expression pedal control of the Reverb Dwell to beef it up on the fly if you want to. I’ve assigned the Gain control to the continuous controller pedal so you can add some distortion to the sound on the fly if you want some real tube compression and more drive.

   In the sound clip, I’m playing my Fender American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster with the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups and the S1 switching system. I play the first half of the sound clip on the bridge pickup and you can really hear how the Stratocaster pickup is tilted toward the bridge on the high strings as the high strings are noticeably brighter than the bass strings. The LMC Pure Clean sound patch really reveals the guitar in all it’s glory. The second half of the clip I’m playing on the neck pickup and you can hear the sound warm up because of that pickup selection.

Fender Cyber-Twin SE Amplifier

   Today on Live Musician Central I’m posting another of my custom programmed Fender Cyber-Twin SE preset patches. This patch is called LMC Hi-Gain ’66. Who doesn’t love the sound of a maxed out Fender Blackface amplifier? How about a maxed out Fender Blackface amplifier pushed even harder by a maxed out Overdrive? Well that’s what you get with this sound patch. It’s a fully cranked up Super Reverb ’66 pushed to the limit with the added overdrive.

   This can be a very noisy preset patch because the signal is being pushed so hard but it is bearable while you’re playing. It’s sound patches like this one that make me wish the noise gate on the Cyber-Twin SE would close 100% to silence so the amp would get silent when you’re not playing. It’s okay though because when you’re playing in front of an audience the noise isn’t that bad and once you do start playing it’s such a thick sound that the noise floor disappears. This is also a very difficult sound patch to control with your guitar. You need to be good with palm muting and the volume knob to keep the guitar feedback under control. I have assigned the Continuous Controller pedal to control the amplifier gain to help you tame the sound down if you need to.

   I use LMC Hi-Gain ’66 for some classic metal songs such as the Poison song “Nothing But A Good Time”. I also use LMC Hi-Gain ’66 for high speed touch soloing and tapped solos since it makes the amplifier so sensitive to every little touch on the strings. I have assigned the Expression Pedal to control the Overdrive Bass frequencies so you can back them down and make this sound cut through the mix even harder than it does. LMC Hi-Gain ’66 is a sound that has limited application but can be invaluable when you need something that can really push the guitar to the limit in the mix.

   I played the sound demo on my Fender American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster which is equipped with Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups. I am using the bridge pickup for the entire soundclip. In the sound clip I played a little Poison, a little Queen and one of my original tapping excursions that I’m sure I plagiarized from somewhere. At the end of the clip I hit a harmonic at the third fret on the G-string to demonstrate how well this sound patch will pick up quieter sounds.
