In Stereo - Laying Down The Groove

My live band In Stereo played this past weekend at the Canyon Inn in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our drummer, Ted Townsend was back playing with us after a long battle with a staff infection in his ankle. If you remember, he got sick in April right before a gig. Ted had a rough time recovering but he’s one of the toughest people I’ve met and he’s back behind the drumset again.

Naturally after that long of a layoff you worry about a players ability to hold up under the strain of two consecutive 4-hour nights of playing. Especially when it’s the drummer because drumming takes a lot of stamina. We did get together to practice a couple nights before the gig and Ted was feeling good so we went ahead and played the Canyon Inn.      Continue reading “Weekend Gig Report – In Stereo At Canyon Inn, July 24-25, 2009”

My live band “In Stereo” played two nights at the Canyon Inn in Salt Lake City, Utah this past weekend. It was a very mixed bag as the two nights went down in very different ways. On Friday we had some definite problems but we recouped and Saturday we were back on top of our game.

Our drummer, Ted Townsend is still recovering from a severe ankle infection that has left him unable to play drums. He is getting better but the date of  his return to the drumset with In Stereo is still unknown. Luckily, the very talented Frank Lee was able to fill in for Ted this weekend. Frank also plays drum in my original band, Shufflin’ Noah and Frank was a founding member of In Stereo before he went back to school to get his Masters degree.    Continue reading “Weekend Gig Report – In Stereo at Canyon Inn, May 29-30, 2009”

Gig Report – In Stereo Live At The Canyon Inn April 3-4, 2009

Write-up on the In Stereo gig at the Canyon Inn in Salt Lake City on April 3-4, 2009.

In Stereo Ready To Rock
In Stereo Ready To Rock

In Stereo played an excellent live gig at the Canyon Inn in Salt Lake City, Utah the weekend of April 3-4, 2009. We really had a lot of fun this past weekend even though the weekend started with an extreme low point for In Stereo. We had practiced on Wednesday night and Ted (our drummer) seemed to be doing fine and we got some excellent new songs ready to go. So when I got a call about midday on Thursday from Ted to tell me he was in the hospital with a severely infected ankle it was a complete surprise. Ted had his ankle’s fused about a year ago and the screws in the bones had started to come out and caused bleeding inside his ankle, which in turn became infected. Needless to say, he would be unable to make our scheduled gig. Luckily, we were able to secure the drumming services of Frank Lee who is the drummer for Shufflin’ Noah and also the original drummer for In Stereo before he left the band and Ted took over the drumming. It turned out to be really fun for all of us to have Frank come and drum although our thoughts were with Ted all weekend.      Continue reading “Gig Report – In Stereo Live At The Canyon Inn April 3-4, 2009”

My live band, In Stereo, played at the Canyon Inn in Salt Lake City this weekend. It was a decent gig and a lot of interesting things happened. It was also interesting because it was on a Friday the 13th followed by Valentines Day. You would think that would give us a lot to work with from the stage but we didn’t really come up with a lot of good jokes. I think the Friday the 13th effect was in full force though because I totally lost my voice after about 5 songs. Let me start at the beginning.

Weekend Gig Report – In Stereo at Canyon Inn, January 9-10, 2009

In Stereo rocked the Canyon Inn this chilly January weekend. The Canyon Inn in Salt Lake City, Utah is a great place for live bands to play and we really enjoyed being there. We hadn’t played for a while so we had quite a bit of rust to knock off for this show. We started out pretty rough on Friday night but by the time we finished on Saturday night we were back in really good form.

Friday night the effects of the U.S. economies current recession was really evident in the club. Usually during the peak ski season the Canyon Inn fills up to capacity every night. Friday it was only about half full. That was probably a good thing because we didn’t have our sharp edge intact as we were a bit rusty from the time off over the holidays. Luckily we pulled it together and ended up giving a really good show. Continue reading “Weekend Gig Report – In Stereo at Canyon Inn, January 9-10, 2009”

Weekend Gig Report – In Stereo at Canyon Inn, November 7-8, 2008

We had a really excellent gig at the Canyon Inn in Salt Lake City this last weekend. In Stereo hadn’t played any shows for about a month and half so we were all rested, charged up and ready to rock! Let’s face it, live musicians are meant to play in front of live audiences and we were really stoked to be playing again. Because we had taken some time off we got together on Thursday and ran through a few songs to knock the rust off before the weekend. The extra practice really paid off because we played great all weekend long.

Friday night when we arrived at the Canyon Inn it was pretty dead. We were a little worried that the crowd would be small. We shouldn’t have worried because right before we hit the stage people came rolling in. The club filled up really nicely and the crowd was lively and ready to have some fun. Weekend Gig Report – In Stereo At Canyon Inn Sept. 12-13, 2008

In Stereo had a great weekend at the Canyon Inn. We have been playing a lot of shows lately so the band was very tight and our voices were strong. Friday night we had a full house and the people were up and dancing early. Friday was another night where we didn’t play very many slow songs. The crowd just wanted to dance and party all night long. There were a couple birthdays and the mood was really good in the room. Kyle had some family show up and it’s always good to see them out there in the audience. It was just a good solid show and we put a lot of energy into it. By the end of the night our fingers were sore and so were our throats.         Continue reading “Weekend Gig Report – In Stereo At Canyon Inn Sept. 12-13, 2008”

Weekend Gig Report – In Stereo at Club 90 Aug. 29-30, 2008

In Stereo Bass Drum Logo

We had a really good time at Club 90 this weekend. It was by far the best gig we’ve played at Club 90. Historically we’ve gotten booked on bad weekends when we play Club 90 and we’ve never really had a great crowd crowd. This weekend was looking like it would be another lame weekend because it was Labor Day Weekend but with gas prices keeping people close to home, we had a good crowd both nights.

Weekend Gig Report – In Stereo Plays Wedding

In Stereo Bass Drum

In Stereo played a wedding at a place called Wolf Creek Ranch this weekend. It was a lot of hard work as we had to play way up in the mountains. We had to haul our equipment across a bunch of gravel which you don’t really realize is going to be so much effort until you do it. We also couldn’t park our cars at the location we were playing so we had to do some extra driving around. All that takes time so our usual 1 hour setup time took us 2 hours. Luckily we got there 2 hours early and were ready to go.

Weekend Gig Report – In Stereo at Canyon Inn July 25-26, 2008

My band In Stereo played the Canyon Inn in Salt Lake City, Utah this weekend. It was a lot of fun to get out and play. We’ve had about a month off and the break has been nice but I start getting restless to get out and play when we sit for so long. Overall the weekend went really well and it was a good success.
