One way to stay current with your bands song selection is to keep an eye on the yearly Grammy Awards. The Grammy Awards are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States for outstanding achievements in the record industry. Debate has raged about whether the Grammy Awards actually represent the sentiments of the public at large and I’ve knocked the Grammys many times. I feel like they really miss the best of industry a lot of the time. But I have to say that the Grammys do get the public interested and they get those of us in the music industry talking.
The positive point for your band in relation to the Grammys lies in the fact that the songs and artists presented at the awards are going to sell like crazy after the Grammy awards. So when it comes to selecting songs for your band to play you can be pretty sure that a lot of people are going to be aware of the songs that were presented at the Grammys. As I’ve said before, if your band is playing what people are familiar with it’s going to be a lot easier to fill up the dance floor. So it’s a really good idea to keep an eye on not only the winners at the Grammy Awards but also everyone that got a nomination. Lucky for us, the categories really narrow down what you should pay attention to in relation to your band. If you’re a rock band, watch the rock categories. Dance bands should watch the Dance categories. You get the idea.
Again, it’s easy to see who the winners and nominees are on iTunes. They have an iTunes section dedicated to the Grammy’s. All you have to do is follow the link I’ve included below. So check it out and stay ahead of the game when it comes to song selection.
