  • Sunday Funnies – Ding Fries Are Done (Burger King Christmas Song)

This has long been one of my live band’s favorite Christmas songs. It seems like every year at band practice somebody will bust out singing a version of “Ding Fries Are Done” which is sung to the tune of Carol Of The Bells. If you’ve ever worked in fast food then I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of this fast food Christmas classic!   (more…)

  • Weekend Set List For Your Live Band To Play – Christmas Dance Songs 2

Last week I posted up our first Christmas Song set list called Christmas Dance Songs 1 for you to use with your live band. You can either use these set lists as a whole and learn every song on them with your live band or you can pick and choose songs to learn. It’s also a great idea to have all of the songs listed on the set lists loaded on your portable music player so you can have them with you at your gigs. The reason you want to have them with you is so you can fill requests during your band breaks.

It’s not always possible to learn every song on the setlist simply because you band’s lineup may not be able to cover some of the songs on the list. That’s another great reason to have these songs with you at gigs loaded on your portable player. You’ll be able to play some songs during band breaks that your band normally wouldn’t be able to play. That’s a really easy way to keep the audience happy and dancing all night long.

You can download these songs from Amazon.com MP3 download service which gives you several advantages over iTunes. The MP3’s are all encoded at 256kbps which is an excellent quality for MP3’s. You also won’t need any special software to download the songs or load them on your portable music player. All the songs are fully compatible with any MP3 player including iPods and iPhones. So get downloading these Christmas dance songs and start partying!

    Included Songs:

      Christmas Tree – Lady GaGa
Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You – SR-71
      Last Christmas – Wham
Back Door Santa – B.B. King
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) – U2
Christmas In Hollis – Run DMC
      Blue Christmas – Elvis Presley
      Sleigh Ride – TLC
Little Drummer Boy – Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
Everybody Loves Christmas – Eddie Money
Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight) – Ramones

  • Lowering Your Live Band Rates To Get A Gig

The Concert Was Free, But I Bet Jimi Got Paid
The Concert Was Free, But I Bet Jimi Got Paid

The current economic conditions have been especially tough on live bands. Gigs just seem to be drying up and disappearing altogether. There is very fierce competition between bands to get the gigs that are still available. Sadly, this has led to many bands lowering their gig rates simply to get any bookings at all. So what should you do when it becomes a matter of money that is the final deal breaker between you and another band getting a gig?

That’s a very tricky question to answer because lowering your rates will not only hurt your band, but it will hurt every band that plays at the club you lower your rates to play in. The biggest problem with lowering your bands going rate is that the new, lower rate will become the accepted pay standard for your band every time you play in that club. The club owner can then use your lower rates as leverage against other bands to get them to drop their prices as well. So as you can see, it hurts all of your local bands if you undercut everyone in pricing just to get a gig.    (more…)

  • Line 6 POD Studio KB37 USB Audio Interface Review Update

    Line 6 POD Studio KB37
    Line 6 POD Studio KB37

A while ago I wrote a review on the Line 6 Toneport KB37 Audio Interface and MIDI Controller. I really love this little audio interface and it’s been an invaluable tool for my music recordings. I have a larger setup in my main studio but the KB37 goes with me when I need to work on my recordings while on the road. That being said, I have to admit that I use the KB37 in my big studio a lot of the time because it’s so simple to use.

When I got my KB37 it was called a Toneport and came with basic Line 6 amp simulation software. I had to purchase Reason 4.o and Sony Acid separately to get my portable recording setup running with the KB37. That added up to quite a few dollars to get a decent mobile audio workstation going.   (more…)

  • Sunday Funnies – Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer

Yes it’s Christmas time once again and that means it’s time for some good Christmas humor for the Live Musician Central Sunday Funnies. Here’s a song that’s been covered by more than a few live bands in it’s time. It’s been a few years since Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer was released and it’s become a real Christmas classic. I remember when it was released in 1983 and laughing good and hard at the accompanying music video. My Mom, who was a Grandma too, didn’t find the song quite as funny as we kids did for some reason.

I hope you get a good chuckle out of the video for Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. If you haven’t seen it for a while I’m sure you’ll see a few things that will get you laughing yet again.     (more…)

  • A Bridge Pin Puller Is A Perfect Acoustic Guitar Gift Accessory

Dunlop Bridge Pin Puller - Bottle Opener
Dunlop Bridge Pin Puller - Bottle Opener

I’m sure a lot of you are asking for or giving an acoustic guitar as a gift for Christmas this year. I still remember when I was 13 years old and I got my very first acoustic guitar. I loved it and it brought a whole new dimension in music to my life. Getting my acoustic guitar as a Christmas present was literally what launched my career as a musician playing in live bands.

I remember learning how to play on that acoustic guitar and playing it until I broke a string. That brought me to my first string change on an acoustic guitar. Let me tell you, it was a learning experience and I learned a hard lesson. Acoustic guitar bridge pins are a real pain in ass to get out of the bridge! Naturally I grabbed a flat blade screwdriver and began prying against my beautiful wood bridge mount which I immediately chipped by prying on it.   (more…)

  • Playing Christmas Songs In Your Live Band

    Elvis Rockin' Christmas
    Elvis Rockin' Christmas

The season is upon us and it’s time to play those holiday gigs that come to all working live bands. I don’t know if your band is like mine, but it seems like every year we talk about learning a Christmas song or two and we just never seem to get around to it. So the holidays come and we just play the same old stuff at our shows. That’s why I’m going to give you some tips on preparing some holiday songs for your live band so you can be ready for the season.

Obviously the most important thing is timing when to learn the song. It’s better to learn the song well before your holiday shows. So if you’re planning on playing some Christmas songs in December, it’s a good idea to start learning them in October. By learning the songs that far in advance, you’ll be able to iron out the rough spots and really do a good performance of the song when your holiday shows come. Believe me, your audience will be able to tell if you learned the song 3 days before the show.     (more…)

  • Sunday Funnies – McDonald’s: The Rap

If you’ve ever been to McDonalds you’ll get some pretty good chuckles out of this rap by YouTube user GoRemy. Remy’s rapping is barely passable but he’s got some pretty funny lyrics in this rap. It was funny enough to make it onto this weeks Sunday Funnies on Live Musician Central anyway!
