Today on Live Musician Central I’m posting one of my most popular custom programmed preset patches for the Fender Cyber-Twin SE amplifier. This is the first of two patches that I use in tandem to create a lot of my classic Marshall amplifier tones. The basis for this patch is the “Vintage Stack” amplifier model that comes with the Cyber-Twin SE. Where it differs from that one is my patche’s ability to get thick and wide in the stereo spectrum with chorus and also with more gain. One of the biggest challenges I face being the only guitar player in the band is creating the illusion of having more than one guitarist onstage. A lot of the time I’m combining two guitar parts to be played on a single guitar and it’s up to my Cyber-Twin SE to create the thickness of two guitars. That’s how this preset patch was born.

Live Musician Central is proud to announce the release of the new album “Fudgie The Dog” by the band Shufflin’ Noah. Live Musician Central author Matt Rushton is the lead guitarist and one of the principle singers and songwriters in Shufflin’ Noah. The “Fudgie The Dog” concept album was recorded live as it was improvised in Matt’s home studio. The entire album was recorded in one 2-hour session where the only planning consisted of 5 or 10 minute conversations between takes about what Fudgie would do next. The music, lyrics and melodies were all made up as they were being played and there are no overdubs or re-takes on this recording. You will hear some bad notes and the band is loose at times but things come together in a really pleasing way overall.

  • Live Musician Central – Weekend Album Picks 3-28-09

Every week on Live Musician Central we pick the top new album releases for the week. In case you’re wondering how we determine the top album releases, we base it solely on the level of music industry marketing behind the album. These particular releases may not be our personal favorites but they are being pushed like crazy by the music industry. How does that help us as live performing musicians? It keeps us in step with the rest of the industry and can also serve as a reference to what’s going to be played by radio, tv and dj’s across the nation. That can help you with song selection for your band when building your set lists. Knowing what people will be listening to will help you when programming your break music that you play during band breaks. It’s a fact that marketing by the music industry plays a huge part in what people in general are listening to. That can help your band appear on top of the scene by playing songs that people are going to be familiar with. We do put some classic albums and personal favorites up as well.

We feature MP3 downloads from Amazon.com because of their extremely high quality (256kbps MP3)  and excellent pricing. You can save a bundle downloading from Amazon.com and everything you download from them is DRM free and can be played on multiple music players including iPods and iPhones. • Live Musician Central Dance Set List 7, iTunes iMix

This is set list number 7 in the Live Musician Central series of downloadable dance set lists. The songs that comprise the set lists have been chosen from the Mobile Beat 200 Best Dance Songs Of All Time. In the clubs these songs are all proven floor fillers every time they’re played. Even if your band doesn’t learn all these songs they’re essential to have loaded on your iPod or portable music player to play during your band breaks. My band has been able to keep the crowd up dancing and happy by being able to play all their requests (even the requests the band doesn’t know) by having these songs on the iPod. We put on the audience requests during band breaks and having these songs has been a real life saver. It’s amazing how many times the songs in these set lists get requested. It’s a great way to keep the party going all night long! I wrote a post you should read about the advantages of using iTunes iMix feature to get your band on the same page while learning songs called Creating A Setlist Using iTunes iMix. So please download and enjoy Live Musician Central Dance Set List #7.     (more…)

  • Live Musician Central – Weekend Album Picks 2-28-09

Every week at Live Musician Central I pick some of the top new releases available for you to download from both iTunes and Amazon.com music service.  These new release choices reflect the heaviest music industry marketing. There are a couple of reasons I post up the most heavily music industry marketed albums. First, by checking out these releases you’ll be able to keep a finger on the pulse of the mainstream music industry. It’s music industry is a very powerful business that heavily influences peoples buying choices. The second reason is that a large number of people are going to know these albums. So if your band is looking for new music to put in your bands setlist these would be good choices simply because your chance of people knowing the songs at your shows will be very high. You’ll also look very on top of things and current with your knowledge of music. So these albums are a great resource for your song selection. I will also post up links to some top selling albums of all time for the reason of song selection as well.

I use links to both iTunes and Amazon.com. iTunes is now the top music retailer in the U.S. so it goes without saying that people are going to be downloading their recommended new releases. I put links up from Amazon.com because their music service is an incredible bargain and their MP3’s are DRM free. You can save a bundle downloading entire albums from Amazon.com instead of  iTunes. Amazon.com MP3’s are also ripped at an excellent sounding 256kbps and since they’re DRM free you can play them on multiple MP3 players including iPods and iPhones.
