Today on Live Musician Central I’m posting one of my most popular custom programmed preset patches for the Fender Cyber-Twin SE amplifier. This is the first of two patches that I use in tandem to create a lot of my classic Marshall amplifier tones. The basis for this patch is the “Vintage Stack” amplifier model that comes with the Cyber-Twin SE. Where it differs from that one is my patche’s ability to get thick and wide in the stereo spectrum with chorus and also with more gain. One of the biggest challenges I face being the only guitar player in the band is creating the illusion of having more than one guitarist onstage. A lot of the time I’m combining two guitar parts to be played on a single guitar and it’s up to my Cyber-Twin SE to create the thickness of two guitars. That’s how this preset patch was born.
I used the Triangle Chorus on “LMC Stack Chorus” to create a wide, stereo guitar effect. The key is slowing the chorus rate way down so that the sound just sounds wide instead of heavily chorused. Heavy chorusing doesn’t work well with distortion but slow, light chorusing works wonders. In the sound clip, you can hear where I turn the chorus on halfway through the clip and there’s the illusion of a 2nd guitar layer. It sounds really amazing in 5.1 sound as well. There is no compressor on this patch and all distortion is controlled with the volume knob of the guitar in the sound clip. I did assign the gain knob to the continuous controller pedal so you can use that to dial the gain up to the maximum. I also assigned the Expression Pedal to the Chorus Out level since sometimes the chorus is too thick and it’s nice to be able to dial it back to suit the song.
The sound clip of “LMC Stack Chorus” was recorded using my 2004 50th Anniversary American Deluxe Stratocaster which is equipped with the factory Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups. I am using the bridge pickup setting for the sound demo. I’ve posted the MIDI System Exclusive data for easy transferring to your Fender Cyber-Twin SE as well as the text file for this patch. If you don’t know how to use MIDI System Exclusive data to transfer patches to your amplifier, I’ve written a tutorial for you here: How To Save And Load Presets To Your Fender Cyber-Twin SE. You can also check out my other custom programmed Cyber-Twin SE Preset Patches at the main Preset Patch Download Page.
I hope you enjoy this totally FREE offering from Live Musician Central. It’s my way of helping out all you Fender fans out there to recover from the crazy Fender price increase. -Matt-
