Fender Slow To Ship 2010 American Deluxe Stratocaster

Fender has had a very hard time filling orders in a timely manner for the 2010 American Deluxe Stratocaster.

Fender American Deluxe Ash Strat Wine Transparent
2010 Fender American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster - Wine Transparent

I’ve been doing some asking around and have had many reports of people waiting months to get ahold of the new 2010 American Deluxe Stratocaster. There are certain colors available right now but some colors and options are out of stock and have been for months. I ordered a Wine Transparent American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster on April 2, 2010 and it just came in on September 22, 2010. It was almost a 6 month wait. Needless to say, I did not pick it up or pay for it and told the store they can keep it. It’s ridiculous to wait that long for a guitar and I will not play that game. Now that doesn’t mean I won’t get one. I will still be getting my 2010 American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster, just not right now. Since Fender forced me to wait for 6 months for a new one, I’ve lost that “must have it now!” attitude and will patiently shop for a used one. It may take me another year to get it, but I’m sure I’ll save some money and in the meantime I’m $1649 richer.    Continue reading “Fender Slow To Ship 2010 American Deluxe Stratocaster”

Neal Schon Plays Journey’s Lights On A Fender Stratocaster

Video of Neal Schon playing the Journey song “Lights” on the Fender Stratocaster.

It’s well known that Journey’s Neal Schon plays primarily Gibson Les Paul guitars both in the studio and when the band plays live. Well, there’s one Journey song that you just can’t get the right tone on without a Fender Stratocaster. That song is “Lights”, so there you go all you Gibson Les Paul fans out there. Let’s face it, the Fender Stratocaster has a delicious, bluesy sounding neck pickup.

In this video, Neal Schon is demonstrating his parts  on “Lights” while playing a Fender Stratocaster. It looks like he’s using an early 90’s Strat Plus with Lace Sensor pickups and a Floyd Rose double locking tremelo. What’s doubly cool in this video is the fact that he’s looping his rhythm part and playing lead over it. I don’t know if he does that live or not but it sure sounds cool here.    Continue reading “Neal Schon Plays Journey’s Lights On A Fender Stratocaster”

Download Free Fender Cyber-Twin SE Preset Patch “LMC Talk-Wah”

Listen to a sound clip and download the MIDI system exclusive data for this Fender Cyber-Twin SE preset sound patch. This one is called “LMC Talk-Wah”.

My Stage Amp - Fender Cyber-Twin SE Amplifier
My Stage Amp - Fender Cyber-Twin SE Amplifier

Today I have another of my custom programmed Fender Cyber-Twin SE preset sound patches for you to listen to and download. I use my Cyber-Twin SE in all kinds of live band settings because the amplifier is so incredibly versatile. I have programmed several ‘Special Effect’ type sound patches that I use when I need a specific sound to fill a spot in certain songs.

This sound, LMC Talk-Wah, was created specifically to mimic the sound of the Talkbox being used on the Nazarethsong “Hair Of The Dog” which my band plays. If you aren’t familiar with that song that’s okay, I play the lick in the sound clip below. The sound is similar to what Peter Frampton does on “Show Me The Way”.      Continue reading “Download Free Fender Cyber-Twin SE Preset Patch “LMC Talk-Wah””

Fender Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Guitar Pickups Review

Get exceptional noiseless single-coil pickup tones from Fender Samarium Cobalt Noiseless guitar pickups.

Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Pickups
Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Pickups

My favorite electric guitar which I use as my main guitar onstage with my live band is the Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster. I have two American Deluxe Stratocasters. One is the 2004, 50th Anniversary American Deluxe Stratocaster and my other is a 2006 American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster. They’re both equipped stock with Fender Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Pickups.

One thing that I’ve always hated about traditional single coil pickups is the irritating 50/60 cycle hum that plague them. If you use a high gain amplifier or use any kind of compression, the hum is amplified and sounds even worse. I play a lot of high-gain, compressed sounds so the hum that comes with a traditional single coil pickup is unacceptable for a lot of what I play. Simply for the noiseless design, I have been very happy with the Fender SCN Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups.    Continue reading “Fender Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Guitar Pickups Review”

Download Free Fender Cyber-Twin SE Preset Patch “LMC Mid Grind ’66”

Listen to a sound clip and download a free custom preset sound patch for your Fender Cyber-Twin SE Guitar Amplifier. This one is “LMC Mid Grind’66”

Fender Cyber-Twin SE Amplifier

Just in time for the weekend, here’s another free Fender Cyber-Twin SE preset patch for you to check out and download. I call this preset “LMC Mid Grind ’66” and it’s very loosely based on a Fender Super Reverb ’66 amplifier. I’ve made quite a few tweaks to this preset and I use it all the time in my live band. In fact, I like this preset so much that I put it in preset number P01 so that it’s the first sound that comes up when I turn on my Cyber-Twin SE.

What I really love about the “LMC Mid Grind ’66” preset is how it lets the guitars true tone shine through. The sound of the guitar that you’re using will really determine how this preset patch will sound. It’s one of those special presets that will have guitarists naming the type of guitar you’re playing through the amplifier. A Stratocaster will sound like a Strat while a Les Paul will undeniably be a Les Paul. There are some presets that sound pretty much the same no matter what guitar you play through them but not “LMC Mid Grind ’66”.       Continue reading “Download Free Fender Cyber-Twin SE Preset Patch “LMC Mid Grind ’66””

Behringer FCV100 Dual Mode Foot Controller Expression Pedal

The Behringer FCV100 Dual Mode Foot Control pedal works perfectly as an expression pedal with the Fender Cyber-Twin SE amplifier.

In my live band, the guitar amp I use and love is the Fender Cyber-Twin SE amplifier. I’ve been using this amplifier for a couple years and it has never let me down. I program my own custom sound preset patches for the Cyber-Twin SE. The sounds the Cyber-Twin SE is capable of really are amazing!

I also love the MIDI capabilities the amp gives you with control over preset switching as well as control over many parameters in the amp controls and effects parameters. The MIDI controller I use is the Fender Cyber-Controller which has switches for controlling presets, the tuner, and effects on/off. The Cyber-Controller also has two controller pedals that I use to control various sound parameters such as Gain or effects levels.     Continue reading “Behringer FCV100 Dual Mode Foot Controller Expression Pedal”

Why Are Some Guitars Priced So Low And Some Priced So High?

There are several things that factor into guitar pricing. Find out why intruments that share the same name have such a wide price range.

Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster

One question I get asked all the time is “How come this Stratocaster costs so much more than that Stratocaster? Aren’t they both Fender Stratocasters?”. I get asked the same questions about various Gibson Les Paul guitars as well. As a matter of fact, every instrument that you find used in a live band such as drums, bass, guitar or keyboards have huge price ranges for instruments, that on the surface, appear very similar.       Continue reading “Why Are Some Guitars Priced So Low And Some Priced So High?”

Fender Deluxe Player’s Stratocaster Review

The Fender Deluxe Player’s Stratocaster is loaded with custom features at a bargain price. It’s the best MIM Stratocaster you can buy.

Fender Deluxe Player's Stratocaster - Transparent Blue Finish
Fender Deluxe Player's Stratocaster - Transparent Blue Finish

Even though I’m a skilled keyboard and bass player, I play electric guitar in my live band and the guitar is my main instrument. If I could, I’d buy a new guitar about every month. I can’t afford that so I get out and shop for them always looking for that next great instrument.

I like brand new guitars and I certainly haven’t bought into this whole “vintage instrument” craze. I believe that new guitars are being built better than ever before. It’s a lot more fun for me to get a new guitar and play it than to collect a vintage guitar and keep it in it’s case, un-played.    Continue reading “Fender Deluxe Player’s Stratocaster Review”
