I’ve written many times on Live Musician Central about how important it is for every band member in a live band to do some singing. Whether you’re taking time on lead vocals or simply singing backup, your voice is too valuable of an instrument not to use in your band. There’s one piece of equipment that most musicians always seem to skimp on, and that’s their vocal microphone.
That’s whay I’m suggesting a vocal microphone package as a gift for musicians this year. You’ll be doing the musician in your life a big favor by spending a little cash on a good vocal microphone, mic cable and mic stand. This is a great three piece package for your musician and it’s a gift that will be used for years to come.
As I said before, musicians are notorious for being cheap when it comes to their vocal microphones. I’m going to suggest a microphone that’s affordable, extremely durable, sounds excellent and is perfect in a live band situation. The mic I’m suggesting is one I’ve written about on Live Musician Central, it’s the Shure Beta 58A vocal microphone. The Shure Beta 58A is a perfect combination of quality, performance and value in a vocal microphone.
With your microphone purchase you should remember to buy a quality XLR micropone cable. I suggest the Monster Cable S-100 30 Foot XLR Microphone Cable. It’s the perfect length for stage use and this microphone cable can take some serious abuse without shorting out.
Finally you want to pick up a good microphone stand. I use a boom stand as it stays out of my way while I play guitar. I suggest the Proline MS220 Tripod Boom Microphone Stand. They’re good quality so you know your new Shure Beta 58A won’t tip over and these mic stands won’t break the bank.
So there you have it, the perfect set of gifts for musicians!
This is a completely perfect microphone for onstage use. I love mine!
